1. Where did you get that?

To cheer a female colleague from work, say something good about her purse. You could ask her where did she get it and a whole discussion could start from this. She will gladly tell you all about the purse (handbag), you just have to ask.

2. The call

If you don't really know what to do to cheer her up, you could get her husband/boyfriends phone number and cal him. Tell him that she is upset and maybe he will know how to cheer her up.

3. I really like those

Compliment her shoes. Even if she is very sad or upset, if you mean what you say about her shoes, she will be very happy. Talk about what exactly do you like at her shoes? Do you like them as a whole or do you like something specific?
The more details you tell her the more happy you will make her. She will be very excited that someone likes her shoes and this will start a great conversation.

4. You're my friend!

If she is a friend of yours, tell her that. You could tell her face to face or you could even send her an email and tell her that she is your friend. Thank her for being there for you when you needed help (if that's the case) or find something that you could thank her for. I'm sure that if you stop and think a little about this, you will come up with a lot of ideas.

5. I always wanted a pair of these!

If she has a new pair of earrings, tell her they look nice on her. If the pair isn't a new one, just tell her they look special today. If you like the earrings, ask her where did she buy them from and how much did they cost. Complimenting her earrings is a great way to cheer her up.

6. Just talk to her

You could always have a chat with her. Just talk about something that you know would interest her. The conversation will go on from there and this will take her mind off of the things that are upsetting her. If you don't know how to start the conversation, think of a couple of things you could use as a starter point like: does she have children? (great way to start), is she married/single?, where does she live? (maybe it's an area near you or maybe you enjoy that region), etc. Really important here is to actually pay close attention to what your friend is talking about. Some listening skills exercises may be what you need to improve this.

7. Dedicate a song to her on the radio

If you know that she absolutely loves a particular song, then call your local radio and tell them to play it next with a special dedication for you female colleague. The dedication could be something like: "For the most wonderful colleague in the office and for a great friend". Then, be sure to turn on the radio (make sure she can hear the radio)!

8. And the award goes to...

Talk to a couple of colleagues at the office and start giving awards for different things that you think would fit. You could give an ward for "the most popular female colleague" or "the handbag of the day". This will be a fun way to make most of the people in the office a little happier to work there. This could be the starting point of a great community. Of course that your colleague will get an award, so that she feels happy.

9. You have such wonderful hair!

If your female colleague has a wonderful hair and you really wished you had it just like her, tell her that. Don't just say: "I like your hair", go on and say "I wish I've had hair just like yours! How do you keep it so shiny and beautiful?" Always compliment and continue by asking her something so that you start a conversation. A conversation that gets her involved is much more effective than just a couple of words as a compliment.

10. Your secret admirer

Does she like flowers? Do red roses make her smile? If so, then make a phone call and put someone to deliver her the most beautiful red roses bouquet she will ever see. And also put a note in the bouquet: "You look great this morning. Your secret admirer." This will make her smile for the rest of the day.

11. Funny stuff

Everybody loves funny stuff, so why not send her a funny power point by email? Try to make it a really funny one, because she needs it. If it makes you laugh, then it's very possible that she will laugh as well.

12. Take her on a shopping trip!

Go and ask her if she would like to go shopping with you, after work. You could even send her an email or a sms. Ask her where she would like to go and start talking about that/those places and whatever she would like to buy from there. 13. You've got mail!

Maybe what your female colleague needs is a little boost. If you think some motivational quotes would help her recover from her current state, then send her an email with the most beautiful and motivational quotes that you find online. At the end of the email, add your own quote. It doesn't have to be something very fancy, all that matters is that it's from you.

14. Get her a symbolic gift.

If she is into gifts and even if she's not, you could buy your female colleague a small gift to cheer her up. You could buy her a little chain lock, a small stuffed animal toy, a chocolate that she likes, etc.

15. Talk shows

If she likes talkshows, start talking about her favorite one. Maybe it's Oprah and you could talk about the guests that were invited last noght. Or it could by any other talk shows, the important thing is to get her talking.
